Where Will I Be Serving?

People are encouraged to sign up for an area of service to help with at the Outreach. Volunteers will be notified of their assigned area of service by mail and/or email two weeks prior to the outreach. To ensure that we serve our guests effectively on that day, volunteers are asked to stay in their area of service and continue in the same task all day.

When Will I Be Trained?

We will be holding a Volunteer Commissioning Rally on the evening before the outreach on November 16th at 7:00PM at Garrett Coliseum. ALL volunteers are required to attend this evening of information and inspiration. All people serving on the Connections Team have required training events on November 1st & 8th. Can Children Serve At The Convoy of Hope Outreach?

Yes, children 12 and under must remain in the company of a parent or guardian all day. Volunteers 13 and older may work in any area of service they choose. The Kids Zone is for guest use only. Volunteers will not be permitted to leave their children in this area.

What Is Appropriate To Wear?

Volunteers should dress appropriately for the weather. It is recommended to dress in layers, as temperatures may be cooler in the morning and late afternoon. Volunteers should dress modestly and wear clothing that can get dirty.  In warm weather, modest shorts are appropriate. Convoy of Hope T-shirts and hats will be available for purchase at the Volunteer Commissioning Rally.

How Long Can We Expect The Outreach To Last?

For most volunteers, the day of the outreach will begin with the Volunteer Orientation Meeting at 7:30AM.  The outreach will continue until all the guests or groceries are gone; this typically occurs by early to midafternoon.  Volunteers are requested to stay an extra hour to help clean up the site.

Will Lunch Be Served?

Every effort will be made to provide lunch to volunteers. We recommend volunteers bring snacks and bottled water. Bagged lunches are certainly permitted. Beverages and lunch will be served in each area-of-service after first priority is given to our guests of honor.

What Happens If It Rains?

Many outreach experiences have shown that guests will stand in the rain for hours to receive groceries. In the event of rain, volunteers should be prepared to get wet and may wish to bring rain jackets and umbrellas.  It is crucial that all volunteers remain at their assigned area of service and continue serving in the rain. Breaks in poor weather have often resulted in an increase of guests arriving to the site.
